Ainslie Sheridan began her career as an English teacher in Japan, then joined the U.S.
Navy and served in Japan, Hawaii, Boston, West Point, and Newport. As a single mother, she
adopted a six-year-old girl. Then she bought a horse, married a professor, and decided to
stop her travels.
Soon afterwards, she gave birth to a son. Ainslie began writing and in 1990, published
her first novel, Trophies (Signet/NAL). She taught herself hand coloring - the art of
applying spcial colored oils to her black and white photographs. All illustrations in The
Kaleidoscope Pony are done in this manner.

Ainslie recently completed two more illustrated books, ABCats, an alphabet book,
and Feline Feelings, a book of humorous poems written by her husband, James Engell,
with accompanying illustrations that depict the emotions - wild and mild - of cats and
kittens. She lives in Acton, Massachusetts, with her husband.
